abstract

  • Retrieval analysis and experimental and analytical studies have been combined to examine the problem of surface damage in polyethylene total knee components. Though damage mechanisms have not been identified, the conditions under which the damage occurs have been described. Preliminary work to investigate fatigue mechanisms experimentally and analytically has begun, using the information gathered in this study.
