  • To the Editor: I am writing in response to Professor Curran's Law-Medicine Note on the Saikewicz case, 1977 Mass. Adv. Sh. 2461, which appeared in the March 2 issue of the Journal. In contrast to his restrained astonishment at the Supreme Judicial Court's decision, I should like to suggest that it is consistent with the legal traditions of society, that some lawyers anticipated its results, and that the Court meant every word of what it said to apply to all situations in which incompetent persons require medical care if their lives are to be preserved or ended.
