  • Liver regeneration in the rat was studied after intraportal infusion of fresh serum taken from partially hepatectomiscd and laparotomised donors. An inhibitory effect was demonstrated in the uptake of 3H-thymidine into liver DNA when infusion of serum from laparotomised donors took place immediately after partial hepatectomy. The experiments lend support to the hypothesis that there is in the serum of the normal laparotomised animal an agent concerned in the control of liver regeneration. © 1974 by S. Karger AG, Basel.
