Retinopathy of Prematurity, Pediatric Retina, Ocular Imaging, Telemedicine, Tele-Education, Global Health and Medical Education

Dr. Chan received an NIH K30 Clinical Research Curriculum Award from Weill Cornell Medical College and conducts his research in Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), Pediatric Retina, and ocular imaging.

Dr. Chan's primary research program involves the use of telemedicine, tele-education and digital imageing for the prevention of blindness caused by retinopathy of prematurity and pediatric retinal disease. Dr. Chan works with an active research group that studies the implementation and evaluation of clinical information systems, telemedicine, genotype-phenotype correlation, and image analysis for ophthalmic care. Specifically, he has multiple collaborative research projects with Dr. Michael F. Chiang from Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health & Science University, Dr. Thomas C. Lee from Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, Dr. Maria Ana Martinez-Castellanos and Dr. Hugo Quiroz-Mercado from Mexico City, and Dr. Atchara Amphornphruet from Thailand. Together they conduct research looking at the pathogenesis and management of ROP.
