Rita Shaknovich, M.D., Ph.D. is a physician scientist with strong interests in cancer biology and translational research. Her clinical expertise is in Hematopathology with the focus on Hematologic malignancies. Her research training was focused on cancer in general and on hematologic malignancies in particular from the time of her PhD, investigating function of PLZF-RAR fusion protein in Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia.  She has extensive experience in human and mouse pathology, assessment of mouse models of Lymphoma, experimental hematology and immunology. Her laboratory focuses on epigenetics of normal B cell development and lymphomagenesis.  Her lab works with cell lines, primary lymphomas and mouse models to investigate epigenetic changes that take place during B cell ontogeny and neoplastic transformation of normal B cells into lymphomas.  They successfully utilize many experimental and computational tools that allow genome-wide profiling of DNA methylation and gene expression, like ERRBS, CHIP-seq, RNA-seq, exome and whole genome sequencing among many others.
