Nancy Nader   Assist Prof, Research in Physiol&Biophys

Dr. Nader obtained her master and PhD degrees in the field of metabolism/endocrinology/nutrition from the University of Claude Bernard, Lyon, France. Her research work focused on the molecular regulation of the Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) Promoter.

In 2007 and right after finishing her PhD, she joined the laboratory of Dr. Alan H. DeCherney as a postdoctoral associate at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD/NIH) in Maryland, USA, to work on the molecular regulation of the glucorticoid receptor, under the mentorship of Dr. Tomoshige Kino.

Dr. Nader joined WCM-Q in 2012 as a postdoctoral associate in the laboratory of Dr. Khaled Machaca. From 2013 till 2021, she held the position of research associate with a successful experience in leading research studies and guiding the work of research assistants. Her research work focuses on the regulation of oocytes maturation, as well as the characterization of the unclassical membrane progesterone receptors (mPRs) and the study of its pathway. Dr. Nader’s work defied the general accepted dogma in the field showing that the release of oocyte meiotic arrest in Xenopus Laevis is independent of a reduction in either cAMP levels or PKA activity, but rather proceeds through a parallel cAMP/PKA-independent pathway. Moreover, she uncovered the early downstream signaling related to mPRs-induced maturation in Xenopus Laevis oocytes, that implicate APPL1 and AKT2, which are important molecules implicated in glucose homeostasis.

Dr. Nader’s research goals are to: 1) determine the effectiveness of mPRs activation in combating diabetes progression and reversing established diabetes symptoms and 2) keep studying the implication of mPRs signaling in different animal models and tissues, healthy and diseased.
