Koianka Trencheva, Dr.PH., MS, is an Assistant Professor of Population Health Sciences in Surgery, Department of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, on the investigation track. She has advanced expertise in medical science, clinical epidemiology, and population health science and has experience in various clinical settings. Dr. Trencheva’s research career is focused on colorectal diseases. Her research currently is concentrated on improving surgical outcomes and preventing postoperative morbidity, and on inflammatory bowel disease, both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Dr. Trencheva’s research strategies integrate both clinical and social factors data, making it applicable to surgical care and public health programs. Her main research contributions involve the evaluation of risk factors and predictive modeling for surgical morbidity after large bowel surgery, and she is the primary investigator in an ongoing clinical study on this topic. Currently, Dr. Trencheva is a Co-investigator and Director of Operations in the Multicenter International Kono-S RCT with lead investigator Prof. Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi.
