Richardson, Joshua E. Full-Time WCMC Faculty

Joshua E. Richardson, Ph.D., M.L.I.S., M.S., is an Assistant Professor in the Department for Healthcare Policy and Research in the Division of Health Informatics at Weill Cornell Medical College. Additionally, Dr. Richardson is the Assistant Library Director, Clinical Services, at the Samuel J. Wood Library and C.V. Starr Biomedical Information Center. Dr. Richardson evaluates the implementation, adoption, and use of medical informatics applications and health information technologies within healthcare organizations and community settings. Currently his interests revolve around the effects that health IT and informatics applications, particularly mobile health devices and applications, have on provider-provider and patient-provider communication within geriatric care. Dr. Richardson's research interests also include user-centered evaluations of clinical decision support applications, health information exchange, organizational behavior, and health care communication.

Dr. Richardson received his Ph.D. and master's degree in biomedical informatics from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. His doctoral dissertation focused on community-based physicians and their perceived needs in relation to clinical decision support technologies within vendor applications. His master's research employed qualitative methods to explore multi-user perspectives on the impact of hands free communication devices across two hospital organizations. Lastly, he wrote about the evolution of knowledge work within the information economy as well as an assessment of e-book technical standards to earn a master's in library and information science from San Jose State University in San Jose, CA.
