Hong Ding   Associate Professor of Research in Pharmacology

Dr.  Ding's research focuses on the study of the microcirculation and the changes that occur as a result of diabetes and the effects of hyperglycaemia. Hyperglycaemia rapidly induces endothelial dysfunction (as measured by a reduction in endothelium-dependent vasodilatation) with AMPK activation and protection of the deacetylase, SIRT1, negating the effects of elevated glucose levels. Recent studies have focused on the contribution of the anchor protein SLMAP (sarcolemmal membrane associated protein) in both the regulation of glucose transport as well as modulating endoplasmic reticulum stress. Additional studies have also explored the vascular protective effects of FGF21.
