Gloria Chia-Yi Chiang   Assistant Professor of Radiology

Gloria Chia-Yi Chiang, M.D. is a board-certified radiologist specializing in Neuroradiology. She is Assistant Professor of Radiology at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Attending Radiologist at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Campus. Dr. Chiang earned her B.A., with Highest Honors, in Economics from Princeton University and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa society before graduating in 2002. She then attended Harvard Medical School and was awarded her M.D. degree in 2006.

Dr. Chiang completed a transitional internship year at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, CA, before completing a Diagnostic Radiology residency and Neuroradiology fellowship at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center (UCSF). In August 2012, she was recruited to join the radiology faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Chiang achieved Board Certification in Diagnostic Radiology from the American Board of Radiology in 2011 and her Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in the subspecialty of Neuroradiology in 2014.

Dr. Chiang's clinical expertise is in Neuroradiology. She interprets a variety of neuroradiologic studies (MRI, CT, radiographs) involving the brain, spine, and head/neck, and she also performs neurointerventional procedures including fluoroscopically-guided and CT-guided lumbar punctures and myelograms.

Dr. Chiang's research focuses on applying advanced imaging techniques to the study of neurodegenerative diseases, brain tumors, and multiple sclerosis. She has published numerous papers using these advanced imaging biomarkers, including diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), positron emission tomography (PET), and volumetric segmentation. She has also been invited to give lectures on these topics at national meetings, such as ARRS and ASNR. In 2009, she received an NIH/NIBIB Clinician-Scientist in Biomedical Imaging T32 training grant for this work, and in 2012, she was awarded Best Oral Paper at the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology (ASFNR) annual meeting. She also serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Neuroradiology (AJNR).

In addition to clinical activities, Dr. Chiang actively teaches neuroradiology fellows, residents, and medical students.

Dr. Chiang is a member of several prestigious radiological societies listed below:

  • American College of Radiology (ACR)
  • American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR)
  • American Association for Women Radiologists (AAWR)
  • American Society of Functional Neuroradiology (ASFNR)
  • American Roentgenology Ray Society (ARRS)
  • Radiological Society of North America (RSNA)
