Barnett Meyers M.D. is a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Dr. Meyers has served in leadership positions for national professional organizations and is the past-president of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry. He has spent over fifteen years studying the diagnosis of both acute and long-term treatment of geriatric mood disorders. His work has produced over 100 scientific publications.

Dr. Meyers' scientific activities have been supported by two Career Development Awards from the National Institute of Mental Health. He is currently principal investigator of a controlled study of prevention of relapses in late-life delusional depression and a mental health services research program grant, both of which are funded by the National Institute of Mental Health.

Dr. Meyers' research group has demonstrated that among individuals with major depression admitted to community outpatient clinics, minority group membership is associated with a significantly decreased likelihood of having an antidepressant recommended. His findings show that intensive antidepressant therapy predicting early recovery underscores the importance of this public health problem within the mental health sector.
